Sept. 23 – On this day in Montana history in 1858 the first Masonic ceremony in Montana history was held on the summit of the main range of the Rocky Mountains near the Mullan road near Helena. Nathaniel Langford and two other Masonic brothers officiated at the ceremony that is commemorated by a large oil painting in the Masonic Library in Helena.
