June 4 – On this day in Montana history in 1879 the steamship Yellowstone was lost at Buffalo Rapids on the Yellowstone River. The paddle-wheeler that was built in 1876 in Indiana had made just three trips up the Missouri River to Fort Benton before it was lost.
